It is victory song for George Tawlon Manneh Oppong Ousman Weah, the only African to win the Ballon D’or, who would be emerging as Liberia’s new President, going by the results of the concluded presidential election, a few hours ago.

The former striker, struck his way to the Presidential Villa, in West Africa’s oldest country after defeating Johnson Boakai, who he first defeated in the first round of voting about two months ago, but failed to secure the 50 percent needed for an outright win.

“I am deeply grateful to my family, my friends, and my loyal supporters who contributed to our campaign during this extremely long election season,” Weah said on Twitter before the results were announced.

“It is with deep emotion that I want to thank you, the Liberian people, for honoring me with your vote today. It is a great hope. #Liberia#Liberia2017.”

“You know, I’ve been in competitions – tough ones, too – and I came out victorious. So, I know Boakai cannot defeat me. I have the people on my side,” he said to cheering supporters.
