Dr. David Dao, the Vietnamese medical doctor who was dragged off a United Airlines flight after being knocked out by security, has claimed he could have permanent brain damage.

Dao told The Daily Mail that he cannot sleep properly, is unable to concentrate and has very little co-ordination since the incident took place.

But the 69-year-old said he would still fly with the airline again, despite claiming the company’s CEO has never contacted him since he was dragged from the flight on April 9.

Dao was violently dragged from his flight from Chicago to Louisville, Kentucky, when the airline needed four extra seats for traveling crew.

The three security enforcement officers lost control at one point and ended up dropping his head on an arm rest.

Disturbing footage, filmed by other passengers with their mobile phones, showed him drenched in blood and saying: ‘Kill me. I have to go home’.

Dao lost two front teeth and suffered a broken nose and severe concussion, but says he can no longer remember what happened.

Speaking of his recovery process three months on, he said: ‘I’m in the process of recovery. I cannot concentrate well, or sleep well, I need more time to recover, more rest from concussion.  I need surgery to correct my nose, but first of all I worry about my brain.

‘It affects my sleeping, coordination, concentration, doing anything. It could be permanent.’

But the father-of-five said Oscar Munoz, the CEO of the company, had not contacted him personally.

He said: ‘No, no, no. I didn’t speak to anyone, not the CEO, not anyone from the company, only through my lawyer.’

Dao was unsurprisingly reticent to talk about the incident, after he reportedly came to a settlement with the airline to avoid a protracted lawsuit.

Incredibly, the Vietnamese national said he would consider flying with United Airlines again, if policy has changed since the accident took place.

He said: ‘In the future, I hope they keep changing policy to help the passenger, we have a right, they can’t be violated, no matter if they’re black, white, red, or yellow. It doesn’t matter who you are. I hope United keep their promising to change.

‘I would fly with United again, because aviation policy has changed after the accident, I want to see how it’s changed. I would be happy to fly tomorrow if I was well enough. They haven’t offered me free flights though.’

A spokesperson from United Airlines said: ‘We continue to express our sincerest apology to Dr. Dao.

‘We cannot stress enough that we remain steadfast in our commitment to make this right. This horrible situation has provided a harsh learning experience from which we will take immediate, concrete action.

‘We have committed to our customers and our employees that we are going to fix what’s broken so this never happens again.’
