The new Eagle Schnapps

The road to Nigeria pulling itself out of the economic hole it has sunk in recent times, would be paved by deliberate policy and efforts by the Federal Government to support local manufactures through the creation of favourable operation environment.

This was emphasised on Thursday by Managing Director of Intercontinental Distillers Limited (IDL), Chief Patrick I. Anegbe, in Lagos, while reviewing the place of the manufacturing sector to the economic growth of the country.

He argued that companies like IDL, which is a 100 per cent indigenous, must be protected from operational threats like poor infrastructure, insufficient Forex, adulterators and other underhand elements.

His words: “Our wines and spirits are made in Nigeria, by Nigerians and for the Nigerian market. What this means is when our consumers purchase our brand, which are by the way, top quality drinks, they are growing the Nigerian economy and creating jobs for Nigerians.

“We therefore call on the Federal Government to make this dream come through, by providing adequate infrastructure to manufacturers and access to foreign exchange to procure needed machinery and equipment.

He also lamented the activities of saboteurs in the industry, saying: “I want to use this medium to reach out to the various regulatory agencies to intensify their efforts on the fight perpetrators of adulterated products, fakes. Their activities are not only a threat to the industry, but poses a danger to the health of unsuspecting consumers.”

Dwelling further on the company’s operations, he said it is not only 100 per cent Nigerian, but is processes fully ISO certified. “I can boldly say that our brands compare favourably with any product produced anywhere in the world. This is why our company’s manufacturing processes are ISO certified. As leaders in the industry, we shall continue to draw innovation and goodness through our conducts. We are a major stakeholder in the recent government policy achieve economic sustenance by encouraging made in Nigeria products,” he added.

Anagbe, who spoke at the 2016 edition of the reception and award ceremony for the company’s distributors, held at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, explained why a whopping amount of almost N300million was being handed out in cash and gifts to them, even with the nation’s economy dipping officially into recession.

He explains: “Why are we doing this at the economic recession and hardship? We are rewarding hardwork and diligence. We recognise the fact that without the partnership of our distributors, we will not be able to achieve the goals we set for ourselves as a company.”

Aside the awards, he also took time to brief the group of critical stakeholders, who came from virtually all parts of the country about its major decisions and steps taken to improve both the products and its growth package.

For instance, he said, while some of the company’s products like Action Bitters and Commodore Schnapps, had been re-engineered and relaunched into the market, strong and energetic communications were carried out across brands and categories, which drove high equity for the brands on both social and traditional media.

He added: “You may have noticed our engagement initiatives, which is pan-Nigeria. I daresay, we have been able to connect emotionally with our consumers. Our products have gained significant increase in share presence, making us more available in neighbourhood shops, bars and joints.

“We expect that in this current year, our product will grow significantly as we continue to take steps to increase our production capacity. We are, after all, the company that keeps you celebrating, no matter the situation.”

Whilst congratulating the winners, both big and small, he charged them to always imbibe the words of the former US General, Colin Powel – a dream does not become reality through magic, it takes determination, sweat and hardwork.

Earlier, Head of Sales, Aare Hope Gbagi, Head of Sales, had enjoined those enjoying the award for the first time to work harder to be invited in subsequent events, especially as the bar had been raised from N25million to N35million.

He said the film the audience was treated to earlier in the day, entitled, The Three Wise Men, was introduced as a new innovation of the company to the yearly ceremony, adding that the company would always spare no effort in spoiling such a strategic stakeholder within its chain of operation.

It was also an opportunity for the company to unveil the new-look Eagle Schnapps, which was conducted by the Alaake of Egbaland, Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III, who used the occasion to pray for the health of the consumers, the company and the nation at large.

Head of Marketing, Mobolaji Alalade, who spoke on the reason for redesigning the quite inviting new package, said it was part of the strategy to keep the product fool-proof and safe for consumers, as many had tried to fake it due to its premium quality.

He however assured that the company would always be several steps ahead of such undesirable elements, by ensuring that they never succeeded in their schemes, because, just like the eagle, the brand would continue to soar high by changing its flight modes.
