Nigeria league has been thrown into confusion and disrepute following the reinstatement of Giwa FC on the orders of a high court.

The competition was heading towards an exciting title race before this major setback.

Giwa were expelled from the league after they breached the rules and regulations of the competition by staying away from a total of three matches without any acceptable reasons.

The Jos club will now have a dozen games involving them to be rearranged and the October end date for the competition is no longer feasible.

The entire system is now at the mercy of the courts and other clubs could resort to that to seek redress henceforth.

Rivers United would have been the new leaders of the league on Wednesday, but for the reinstatement of Giwa.

Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma has therefore taken exception to the decision to readmit Giwa, saying it smacks of double standards on the part of the organisers.

“This is double standard and this is not the best time for the league to be so disrupted,” Eguma complained to AfricanFootball.com

“At a time when the season is winding down, all the attention has now been shifted to yet another integrity crisis.

“Most of the club officials were recently in Spain and I hope they have learnt how a league should be properly managed.”

The latest decision on Giwa has seen four-time champions Kano Pillars fall down to 10th place on the table and they will no longer be able to line up Giwa players Amos Gyan and Chris Madaki.

“The standards in the league have been compromised,” said Pillars spokesman Idris Malikawa.

“I still do not believe this is the official position.”

Enugu Rangers have welcomed the return of Giwa as that will improve their standings on the table.

“It is good for my club because of the clubs contending for the title, we are the only ones who defeated them at their home, while Rivers United beat them in Port Harcourt,” Rangers coach Imama Amakapabo.

“But we have to wait and see how this drama will end.”

Former Giwa FC coach Abdullahi Biffo has seen his new club Abia Warriors sink closer to the relegation drop zone and he said the return of Giwa will be a major disruption to the league.

“The league will now have to stop for very team to play Giwa. It is a big disruption for the league,” he lamented.
