It is from nomination a few months back to number one citizen at the turn of the new year, with fate playing a fast one on Kogi land with the annointment of a once rejected stone as the new cornerstone of the people of the confluence.

The legal fireworks can continue, more may even come, but officially 40-year old Yahaya Bello, will assume office as the new Governor or Kogi State, come January next year, just a a few weeks away.

In a sudden twist of fate, the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria-trained accountant, who was rejected in favour of the star candidate, Abubakar Audu, at the primaries conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC), to choose its candidate for the November 21 governorship election in the state, has now become the star himself.

He is to benefit from all the hardwork of Audu, who died just a touching distance from victory, James Faleke, his deputy and the APC, to become governor, just by standing by and watching the turn of events, thanks to fate, the decider of all things that decided to hand him the position on a platter.

The voice of Professor Emmanuel Kucha, the Returning Officer (RO), of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), confirming same, when he announced the final result a few hours into the dawn of December 6, was a mere formality.

Bello, was picked by his party to replace Audu, after the APC was given the nod to substitute the deceased candidate, in the supplementary election declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for the 91 wards election did not hold at the first instance, which he conveniently won.

At the final count, the APC’s candidate polled 247,752 to defeat incumbent Governor, Captain Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 204,877 votes, from an initial 240,867-199,514 tally in favour of the opposition party.

Both Wada and Faleke are still in court from different angles to upturn the turn of events.
