Blatter staying put?

FIFA president Sepp Blatter, could yet reverse his decision and continue as boss of the world football governing body.

According to reports in the Swiss media, the 79-year-old is having a rethink about stepping down, after resigning few days after being re-elected for a fifth term.

Schwiz am Sonntag claims a source close to Blatter revealed that he “received messages of support from African and Asian football associations” encouraging him to rethink his decision.

FIFA are expected to announce December 16 as the date for a new presidential election, but Blatter’s former personal adviser told the newspaper: “It’s hard to find someone who is equal to him.

“Blatter has built the organisation into a global, highly successful company, and he’s a top diplomat. Blatter has a reasonable chance. It now depends on how he behaves in the coming months.”

However, chairman of FIFA’s audit and ethics committee, Domenico Scala, has urged Blatter to stick to his decision, saying: “For me, the reforms are the central topic.

“That is why I think it is clearly indispensable to follow through with the initiated process of president’s change as it has been announced.”
