Africa’s first team to taste action at the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand, Ghana required a last-gasp effort to secure a 1-1 draw against Austria in the second match of Group B which went down at the Wellington Regional StadiumWellington (NZL).

The Black Satellites who prides themselves as the only country from Africa to win the Youth World Cup  needed a stoppage-time penalty from Yaw Yeboah to deny Austria the first big upset of New Zealand 2015

The 2009 champions were looking destined to end their maiden outing in New Zealand empty-handed as they found themselves on the backfoot in the 50th minute as Austria took the lead through Bernd Gschweidl.

The never-say-die attitude of the West Africans paid off at the very last minute when a clumsy and needless challenge from Konrad Laimer on Yeboah resulted in an inevitable and inarguable penalty. Yeboah dusted himself down to take responsibility for the kick and dispatched it expertly to earn his side a vital point.

The result sure makes Group interesting as the earlier duel between Argentina and Panama also ended all squared at 2-2

Result so far:

Group A

USA 2-1 Myanmar

New Zealand 0-0 Ukraine

Group B

Argentina 2-2 Panama

Ghana 1-1 Austria
