Ugwuanyi

The Enugu governor-elect, Mr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi may have become ‘incommunicado’ as he is now rarely seen in public while communication through his mobile lines has also become impossible.

Ugwuanyi’s mobile lines which were easily accessed during the election campaigns are suddenly “not reachable” or “call being diverted”, since he won the governorship election of the state.

As a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ugwuanyi responded to phone calls and text messages on his MTN mobile numbers promptly. He has however not done so since April 12 in which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pronounced him governor-elect after winning the election.

A resident who craved anonymity told Whirlwindnews that though he understood the pressure associated with his new responsibility, he should also have known that communication was one of the areas that could aid his would-be-administration.

“I understand the challenges of his present elevation, but it will may mean staying afar from the people should he start early in the day to keep away from communication. I say this because, not everybody calling his line could be doing so for some favour. Even if he does not answer calls, he could respond to certain text messages from his subjects”, the source said.

But one of the aides of the governor-elect insist that his phones were always available, stressing however that he decided to put certain communication on hold “to avoid distractions”.

“You know our people know how to engage somebody on phone with issues that are relevant and those that are not  and putting you under pressure to do certain things. Also bear in mind that is it a busy period for the governor-elect, so he must receive visitors and attend to other various issues personally. he cannot keep away from his subjects, not after they have voted him into power. Trust him, he is not that type of person who could shut his doors against his fellow human”, he said.

He however stated that the governor-elect does not go to bed daily until he was sure that he had seen anybody who came to see him “including those outside his compound”.
