Even with the inauguration of a new government still about a month away, the picture of what events may look like in Benue State thereafter appears to be taking shape.

With swords already being unsheathed from their scabbards, it is one of a likely deep schism between the new government to be run by the All Progressives Congress (APC), and that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it is about to replace.

On Tuesday, the in-coming government rebuffed what appeared like troubleshooting of Governor Gabriel Suswam, who a few days ago, presented eight Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), to the incoming Governor, Samuel Ortom, his Deputy, Benson Abounu and their wives, a gesture he said was to ease their movement.

But, instead of being appreciative of the obvious early gesture at “goodwill,” the recipients, say the source of the exotic cars would be part of the comprehensive probe that their government was going to carry out against the governor.

And to underscore the fact that they were not joking, Ortom, is said to have recalled Suswam’s Aide d’Camp (ADC), Dickson Pawa back to his duty, this time to serve him (Ortom), a move believed to be geared towards extracting vital information to nail his former boss.

Abounu, speaking on behalf of Ortom, had promised that everything would be done to make the outgoing governor account for all his actions in the eight years he governed the state, particularly his financial transactions.

But less than 24 hours after the governor-elect’s told reporters of the plan, a group sympathetic to the governor, has told his that he was not elected to cause trouble in the state but to deliver good governance rather than chasing shadows, which could throw the state into crisis and stymie progress.

In fact they warned that Ortom and his government would get the measure with which he dished out trouble if he went ahead with his scheme, reminding him that he would not be the first to be elected governor.

Under the aegis of Swem Brotherhood, the group insisted the in-coming government was bound to fail if it relied on "blackmail and vindictiveness," which it had now shown even before inauguration.

The group also warned that any attempt to divert attention from delivering the dividends, adding that any attempt not to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people by pursuing revenge, as the body language from Ortom and his followers had already suggested would be met with stiff protest.

Leader of the group, Gbafan Ikyaator who spoke to Whirlwindnews.com on phone from Gboko today, also advised against recycling of old hands during appointments adding that fresh brains are needed into the system in order to welcome innovations.

Reinstating Pawa, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), earlier sacked by the Suswam as his Aide De Camp (ADC), apart from apparently getting him act as a star witness to the governor’s alleged malfeasances in office, is believed to be a move to further spite him for the bitter in recompense for the bitter feud that ran through the two camps in the wake of the PDP primaries, where Suswam reportedly stood against Ortom’s ambition.

Powa, was reportedly caught in the crossfire when he it was alleged that his loyalty was divided and was also accused of incessantly revealing the Governor's movements to some politicians including Ortom.

Ortom, who contested the PDP ticket in the last gubernatorial primaries lost to Prince Terhemen Tarzoor, before moving to the All Progressive Congress (APC) had cried out that he was frustrated out of the race by Governor Suswam.

"What we want in Tiv nation and Benue at large is good governance. Akume came and left with a lot of issues hanging for the Suswam who took over from him. Suswam did not complain bug started very well. Somewhere along the line, he slacked".

"The good thing is that his time is up and we will have to move on other than flexing muscles around town that we will deal with this and deal with that. Nobody is perfect", he stated.
