Five days after her husband died, wife of slain alleged militant leader Terwase Akwaza, otherwise known as Gana, Wantor Akwa, has come out with a startling revelation about how her husban, was on his way to dedicate his life to the service of God for the rest of his life, before he was gunned down by soldiers, a few days ago.

The killing of the ex-militant, who had returned to the bush, after initially renouncing violence, on the way to a second renouncement, based on a new amnesty granted him by the Benue State Government, had since raised some dust with the allegation that he was summarily dismissed by the army.

He was reportedly pulled out of a government vehicle and taken away by some soldiers at a chechpoint, while the official position of the Nigerian Army, was that he was killed during a shootout after his convoy engaged troops on his trail.

Bemoaning the death of her husband, Akwa, one of his five wives, said he was violent and wicked as being depicted, adding that from the conversation both of them had when he was still in the bush, he declared his intention to be a free man and to serve God.

Speaking with reporters in Abuja on Thursday, Akwa, who said her husband was on his way to finalise the peace deal he had with the Benue state government before he was killed, added that he wanted to be a free man and only came out of hiding because Gabriel Suswam, Senator representing Benue North-East, told him that he was involved in the peace deal.

“I was in Makurdi when they called to inform me of the incident. Senator Gabriel Suswam went to meet him on Saturday because when they went for him on the second amnesty issue, he said if he did not see Suswam, he was not going to come out,” Akwa began.

“That until Suswam comes around he will not believe that the amnesty is true. After the initial amnesty he went back into the bush. When the second amnesty programme started, he was briefing me about the development.

“I spoke with him on Saturday and he told me that he was going for the amnesty and that he is tired of the life he was living.

“He told me that he has worked for too long and that he wants to work for God and be a free man. My husband was not a wicked man. I am not saying it because I am his wife. My husband was not a wicked person.”
