Mailafia

Obadiah Mailafia, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) would be back to the office of the Department of State Security (DSS), on Monday, for the third time in less than two months.

Mailafia, who was invited by the secret police, was asked to report to the same Jos office, where he was invited on two occasions last month, on Monday, September 14 by 11am.

Mailafia had refused a similar invitation by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), to appear at its headquarters in Abuja, and had gone to court to enforce his fundamental human right, which he feared could be abridged by the police.

According to him, the job of investigating security matters in the country, fell squarely in the hands of the DSS and it was therefore ill-conceived for the police to wade into the matter.

Expressing the same fears, Mailafia, whose ordeal began since alleging last month in a radio programme that a governor from the North was currently commanding the Boko Haram terrorists, urged Nigerians to pray for him, as he feared some forces were after his life.

His words: “I have once again been ordered to appear before the DSS at their Jos HQ this coming Monday 14th September at 11.00 am. This is in addition to our battle in court, as my lawyer appears before a Jos High Court on Friday September 11, seeking a restraining order against the DIG Criminal Investigations Department (CID) who are also pursuing me.

“I spent over 20 years of my working life abroad as a university teacher, banker and international civil servant with unblemished record. I have no criminal record – not even a parking ticket. Sadly, it is in my own fatherland that I’m being subjected to criminal investigation and such extreme political persecution.

“Please, pray for me. I have reasons to believe that my life is in danger and that some powerful political forces want to silence me forever for speaking the truth.

“For speaking on behalf of the Holy Martyrs – of thousands of innocent children, women, elderly and youths that have been killed in our beloved country.”
