Police in Kogi State, on Wednesday confirmed the killing of 13 members of the same family by some gunmen who attacked them in the wee hours of the same day.

The incident, which took place in Agudu, a community in Bassa, Kogi/koton-karfe LGA of Kogi State in the early hours of Wednesday, according to eyewitnesses, was confirmed by the Kogi Commissioner of Police Ede Ayuba.

He added another person was also killed in a separate attack while six persons who sustained various degrees of injuries were evacuated to medical facilities.

It was on the same day the police boss, also announced the arrest of the killers of a Kogi-based owner of a popular supermarket, in an operation, said to have been planned by one of his boys running the business.

Regarding the early morning killing, Ayuba said the police, he immediately moved to the scene, after receiving a distress call but that the bandits had left the scene before the arrival of the police, adding that normalcy had since returned to the area.

Bemoaning the attack, which he said could have been triggered by an alleged long communal dispute in the community, he said it was unfortunate for a man to lose his life and 12 other members of his immediate family leaving a son as survivor calls for concerns.

On how the killers of the supermarket owner Innocent Ofodile, was arrested, he said it was one Vincent Omogor, who was earlier picked up in connection with the incident that led the police to the perpetrators, one of them being one of the victim’s shop attendants.

Ofodile, was gunned down by his assailants during an attack between Acheni and Gegu villages along the Lokoja-Abuja highway on June 10.

According to Omogor, the said attendant had complained that Ofodile refused to attend to him when he approached him for financial assistance when his father died.
