Bello

Adamant Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, said on Thursday that Nigeria should seize the current opportunity of COVID-19 to make money from other countries where the outbreak is of major concerns rather than importing it into the country and scamming the people.

Amplified his well-known claim that the prevalence of the virus, which has been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Bello said the current situation presented Nigeria with thy producing some essentials and shipping them to countries that actually needed them rather than propping up stories to scam the people.

Speaking at Lugard House Government House, Lokoja, on Thursday, while hosting  visiting members of the Board of Trustees of Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation the governor, blamed politicians for creating a scary situation, where people now die prematurely because hospitals were rejecting them for fear of the COVID-19.

He cited the case of the late Kogi State Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajana, whom he said died of neglect and loneliness, because those who should have gone to take care of him stayed away because the feared he was going to infect them COVID-19, whilst he was merely managing a debilitating health condition, which had been with him since 2016.

Hear him: “Let us stop this game, Nigerians are suffering, instead of the lockdown with its attendant negative effects on the people, why can’t we turn it to employment opportunities, providing clothes for face masks to be imported to those countries who have the disease.

“COVID-19 is not a new disease in our climate, we have our own way of treating it, that is what we should be exploiting rather than subjecting our people to hardship, hunger, and starvation through the lockdown.

“It is wrong for anyone to attribute the death of the late Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Nasir Ajana, to COVID-19 when he had been managing his health since 2016. The complications that eventually led to his death were as a result of the inability to be attended to medically due to the lockdown.

“We know his medical history, he was my brother, we know we have been managing him since 2016 but this time, he was completely isolated, no one was allowed to even speak to him until he passed away, we cannot afford to be playing games with lives of Nigerians, this must stop.”
