A groundswell of Nigerians have joined in demanding for the blood of Derek Chauvin, the murderous Minneapolis police officer, who allegedly killed a blackman, George Floyd by kneeling on his neck until he stopped breathing and later died in hospital.

But back home, stories of similar human rights breaches have continued to emerge, either through physical torture, extrajudicial killing or the wrong use of the judicial process, one of them being the indiscriminate dumping of innocent persons inside prisons by the police.

The Nigerian prisons are full of the ubiquitous Awaiting Trial Mates (ATM), most of them spending years in prisons, because they failed to bribe police officers who arrested them during raids at black spots or simply picked them up in the streets.

The story below is being reported by one Tobijulo, on Facebook of a boy who spent five years in prison after he was arrested by some policemen in the street on the way to buying suya.
