A major troubleshooting move has begun for Duoye Diri, after he was on Thursday, handed over the mantle of leadership by the Supreme Court as Governor of Bayelsa State, after the sack of David Lyon, who initially was to be sworn in this Friday.

Diri, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the November 16 Bayelsa governorship election prevailed over Lyon, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, after the apex court held that his election was invalid because his running mate did not possess the requisite qualification to contest the election.

Amid huge celebrations in the PDP camp, the governor-elect, came with the olive branch for all members of the PDP, who immediately left the party during the crisis that engulfed it before and after it lost the election.

Pleading with the aggrieved PDP members to return, he told reporters that he was going to run an all-inclusive government of that would be peopled by competent Bayelsans, with the mindset to develop the state including those from opposition parties.

His words: “The members of PDP, who out of one thing or the other got angry and left us to APC, I’m waving the olive branch, please, come back,” Diri said.

“We have to build Bayelsa state together. I’m also calling on my brothers in APC they are Bayelsans, we cannot continue to be in disunity.

“Being in APC does not remove you as my brother of Bayelsa state. Whether you are Nembe, Okpia, Sabama, or Southern Ijaw, that is the region that God has brought us together and so, I am extending my olive branch even to those of my brothers and sisters in APC.”
