Merciless bandits burnt 16 members of a family to death in Bakali village in Fatika District, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where they had a field day, leaving the entire community into a fit of wailing and mourning.

Dozens of bandits invaded the community on Tuesday around 4pm, locked up 16 members of the same family in a room and set it on fire, a local, Alhaji Sani Bakali, African Independent Television (AIT) is reporting.

The attack is coming on the heels of a horrific incident in Auno, Borno State, where suspected Boko Haram terrorists set travellers ablaze in their vehicles while they were sleeping.

Reports say, like in Auno, a community 25 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the bandits also left many properties were burnt including vehicles, motorcycles and food items.

Witnesses said the terrorists abducted more than 20 people while 18 vehicles and properties worth millions of naira were burnt to ashes.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari touched down Wednesday in Maiduguri, from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to pay a sympathy visit to the government and people of the State, following the attack.

Reports say the retired General was booed by residents who were apparently not happy to see him around.

But President Buhari told them not to worry because “the terrorists are clearly on a back foot and their days are numbered.”
