Court frees Naira Marley, three others from car theft charges

Justice Tajudeen Elias, Chief Magistrate of Tinubu Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos Island, on Tuesday, struck out the case of car theft brought against singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, ending one of the chapters in the controversial musicians many troubles.

The case in which Marley had faced the charges alongside his two brothers, Idris Fashola, 18; Babatunde Fashola, 24; and their cousin, Kunle Obere, 22 cousin, was dropped after after Elias received a letter of withdrawal from the prosecution.

They were slammed with a four-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, assault and obstructing the police from arresting Marley.

Adelekan Ademola, the complainant in the case, had an agreement of settlement with the four defendants, and when the case came up, it was withdrawn and the defendants were discharged.

In striking out the case, Elias said: “In view of the letter of withdrawal, the defendants are hereby discharged”. Marley was absent, but the other defendants were in court.”
