All hope for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to redeem its crushing defeat in the hands of the All Progressives Congress (APC), evaporated into the air on Monday, following a decision of the Court of Appeal to reverse the disqualification of Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo for the November 16 election.

The PDP had hoped to gain from Degi-Eremienyo’s disqualification by Justice Iyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, as it would mean that the APC had no candidate as no ticket would be complete without a governorship candidate running with a deputy.

But with appellate court’s decision setting aside the judgment of Ekwo disqualifying the senator as the deputy governorship candidate, the PDP may have to rely on its challenge at the election petition tribunal.

In a unanimous judgment of a three-man panel of the appeal court delivered by Justice Abudulahi, the appellate court held that the Justice Ekwo of the trial court erred in law and in breach of the appellant’s right to fair hearing.

He has remained in detention since his, amid calls for his unconditional release, with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami taking over the case.
