Buhari and Aisha

For those asking why Nigeria’s first lady, Aisha Buhari, is always coming out in the open to bare what she could have discussed on the pillows with the husband inside the other room, a straight answer has come from her – there are no longer pillows and the room is empty.

The delectable wife of the President, whose latest outing, was to take on presidential spokesman, Garuba Shehu, whom she accused of working at cross-purposes with the Nigerian first family, including the President himself, in preference to the infamous cabal at the Presidency, was a guest at the Journalist Hangout programme of TV Continental, where she explained why the public space remained the only option many times to voice out what was going wrong at the villa.

She told the panelists, who wanted to know why she could not use the benefit of the usual pillow talk, where couples discussed intimate and sensitive issues that there was no pillow in the villa anymore, neither did such opportunity of the other room, made popular by her husband, who in 2016, said the wife belongs to “in my kitchen and my living room and the other room.”

But, she laid much of the blame on the President’s handlers and appointees, who because of their indolence and lack of capacity, ended up leaving him with a lot of tasks that he hardly had time for his immediate family.

Hear her: “There is no pillow in the villa. No, because we are always busy listening to one story or another. I think the people he put in the cabinet, they should just sit up and do the needful. That is why it is not good to have godfatherism.

“We just have to choose the right people to be at the right places so that we can rest, so that the first lady can stop talking.”
