The fears of former Senate President that he could lose his Ilorin, Kwara State, country homes, came to pass on Monday, exactly five days after her alerted Nigerians of the plot by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to for it.

Saraki, two-term governor of Kwara State, who had earlier lost his Ikoyi, Lagos mansion, had cried out last week that the anti-graft agency was after his Kwara home through the instrumentality of the courts.

True to his fears, Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal High Court, Lagos on Monday, ordered that two building in Saraki’s country home, which he claimed to have built after his tenure as governor, be forfeited to the Federal Government.

The EFCC is claiming that the houses said to be located at plots  10 and 11 Abdulkadir Road, GRA, Ilorin, according to the EFCC, are part of the proceeds of crime, under investigation, after it claimed that the former Senate President, as governor, had withdrawn N12billion in one fell swoop from the accounts of the Kwara State Government.

In an affidavit in support of the claim before the court, Olamide Sadiq an operative of the commission, had told the court through an an ex parte application that the move for the forfeiture of the houses followed the findings of the EFCC after investigation.

He said: “Whilst the investigation was ongoing several fraudulent transactions were discovered. I know for a fact and verily believe that our investigation has revealed the following mind-boggling findings, among others:

“That between 2003 and 2011, Dr Olubukola Abubakar Saraki was the Executive Governor of Kwara State. That whilst he held the aforementioned position, the common pattern was that after payment of monthly allocation by the Federal Government to the Kwara State Government, a cumulative sum of not less than N100m will be deposited into the Kwara Government House account.

“That upon the payment of the said N100m, same will, in turn, be withdrawn in cash by one Mr Afeez Yusuf from the Kwara State Government House, Ilorin’s account in bits and brought to the Government House.”
