After attack on Ifeanyi Uba FC, rampaging bandits kill FRSC officer in Kogi

Rampaging gunmen, appear to be having a field day in Kogi State, on Friday, mowed down an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) travelling from Abuja to Lagos on an official assignment, leaving his colleague injured.

The incident, which happened on the same day, some gunmen in the uniform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), reportedly rained bullets at a bus conveying player of Ifeanyi Uba FC, saw the Toyota Hilux pick-up van the slain FRSC and his colleague were travelling similarly attacked.

The hoodlums, who reportedly hit the victim on the head, were said to have shot directly at the vehicle, with registration number, PILOT 01A, at Oshawa near Lokoja, the Kogi State capital leaving the occupants no chance.

The Corps Education Officer, Commander Bisi Kazeem, who gave some details about the attack, in a statement on Saturday, said that the incident occurred at about 1:50 p.m. on the Lokoja-Okene Highway.

He said: “The suspected kidnappers, according to the first information report, were said to have opened fire at the sight of the marked vehicle and, unfortunately, shot the driver in the head, killing him instantly.

“The vehicle subsequently lost control and veered off the road. It took hours before the rescue team could locate the vehicle in the bush and evacuate the victims.”

The Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, also expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the family of the bereaved, the entire management and staff of the Corps for the death of the officer.
