The International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), is to get back the  the $130,000 (47,058,013.33) Nigeria has been withholding since 2017, following the directive by the new Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare that the money wrongly paid to Nigeria be returned immediately.

In May 2017, the Association transferred $150,000 to Nigeria instead of $20,000 for the country's preperation for the world athletic championship, but all efforts to recover the excess had hit the rocks, as then Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, flatly refused to budge, despite threat of  sanction, by the global athletics body.

But all that is changing now as Dare, in a tweet on Wednesday evening, announced the shift in position, saying baring any interbank delays, the fund would hit the account of the IAAF in a few days.

“IAAF- I have approved the release of funds to refund the IAAF overpayment wrongly credited to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria. In a few days from now the funds should hit the account of the IAAF baring any interbank delays. With this Nigeria’s reputation is regained,” he tweeted.
