Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has launched an immediate investigation into the video clip which surfaced on Wednesday, in the social media, depicting him as driving against traffic in the streets of Lagos, one of the evils, his government had preached against relentlessly.

The less than a minute (32-second) video, had a female voice, apparently its maker decrying how the governor, had resorted to the measure which he created for not repairing the roads and for performing poorly in government.

She was heard saying: “(This is) Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu taking one way…against traffic, because he could not fix the road. Can you just imagine! Can you imagine! He couldn’t even spend 30minutes inside the traffic. And this is what we go through everyday, everyday. That man is yet to do nothing in Lagos.”

In debunking the allegation, Sanwo-Olu’s spokesman, Gboyega Akosile, dismissed the video, saying it was not the governor’s convoy and that the vehicles in question were now being investigated.

Akosile, Deputy Chief Press Secretary, while stating that the governor's convoy had never driven against traffic nor used sirens, wrote:

This is not Governor Sanwo-Olu's convoy. In fact we're investigating these vehicles. Please note that Governor Sanwo-Olu's convoy has never driven against traffic, nor used sirens. It will be good that we confirm claims on social media before making remarks. Thank you.

He warned that social media users should confirm reports before making claims.

“This is not Governor Sanwo-Olu’s convoy. In fact, we’re investigating these vehicles. Please note that Governor Sanwo-Olu’s convoy has never driven against traffic, nor used sirens. It will be good that we confirm claims on social media before making remarks. Thank you,” he wrote.
