The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Friday, cried out to Nigerians that three days after the verdict of the Court of Appeal sitting as the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), in which it threw out the petition of its candidate in the February 23 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, it has refused to make the judgement available.

The party, which said it needed a copy of the judgement as a critical instrument to its proposed appeal to the Supreme Court, said all efforts to get the document since Wednesday it was delivered, had yielded no fruit, thus stalling its effort for speedy preparation of its appeal.

While informing that under the electoral laws, it had only 14 days to appeal the judgement, the party lamented that three days had already been eaten away, without any headway or  idea of when it would succeed in getting the court to respond positively.

Kola Ologbodiyan, spokesman of the party, who made the revelation during his appearance on the popular African International Television political and current affairs programme, Focus Nigeria, appealed to Nigerians to mount pressure on the Appeal Court to quickly release the document.

At the programme where he squared up against a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osita Okechukwu, Ologbodiyan, also addressed the issue of the pressure being mounted on the party and its candidate not to appeal the judgement, wondering why such a move would be made in favour of the same President Muhammadu Buhari, who never accepted the same olive branch from the party on three occasions he lost the same election, in 2003, 2007 and 2011.

Okechukwu, Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), had maintained that it was Buhari’s intention to extend the hand of fellowship to Atiku and the PDP to join hands with him in moving the country forward by supporting his laudable initiatives in such areas as revolutionalising agriculture and lifting Nigerians from poverty.

To this end, the VON boss, asked Nigerians and the PDP to discountenance any other pronouncements being canvassed by any other stakeholder either at the All Progressives Congress (APC) level or those in government that were contrary to the President’s clearly-stated position of rapprochement.

It was however a day of hot argument in which the two stretched the argument of their parties, with Okechukwu insisting that it was Atiku and PDP’s lack of clear understanding of the law that led to the devastating blow that was dealt to their case on Wednesday, as there was no way the court could have agreed with them when the provision of the law was very clear that all Buhari needed prove was that he was educated, which he said was adumbrated by Justice Mohammed Garba, who said he was not only qualified, but “eminently qualified.”

He wondered how the PDP and its candidate would question the educational qualification of the President that attended all the major military schools and rose to the position of a General in the Nigerian Army, became a Head of State and spoke in English all the time.

But Ologbodiyan, inferred that possession of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), certificate or its equivalent was the exact words provided by the law to be met and since the President claimed he possessed one, it was his duty to present same for verification, adding that all over the world those who watched the court pronouncements were in complete shock that the judges could suggest that someone could just present a list of qualifications without authenticating them.

He said the case had presented Nigeria in bad light globally, while the President had become the butt of public jokes, as many were now mimicking and making jests of him by listing fake and bogus lists of qualifications, which they never possessed to stress the Nigerian situation.
