Ohanaeze Council of Elders led by first republic Minister for Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amechi on Thursday urged Ndigbo to vote for any presidential candidate of choice in the February 14 general election.

Contrary to the adoption of President Goodluck Jonathan as Igbo candidate in the election by the apex Igbo socio –cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo on Tuesday, the elders council said it could not commit Igbo voters at home and everywhere to blanket support of any of the presidential candidates, after its wide consultations because, none of the candidates showed concern to Igbo issues.

Chief Amechi, who read the communiqué of the meeting signed by Chairman of the Ohanaeze Caretaker committee, Chief Ralph Obioha and secretary, Dr Zed Chukwujama, said the decision to urged Ndigbo to vote their choice candidate became necessary because it was unable to reach an agreement with any of the presidential candidates on the four cardinal issues of security of life and property, infrastructural development, reparation for atrocities and war crimes against Ndigbo.

He said: “Of the two principal presidential candidates, only one has sent a high level delegation to us and we told the delegation that much as we have the greatest regard and respect for them, we must see candidate himself because whatever agreements to be reached will be implemented by him, if he wins, and becomes president and not the high level delegates. We have not seen the candidate as at this date.

“The other presidential candidate has not made any contact with this committee which is the authentic legal organ of Ohanaeze. If his belief is in some other area or persons to gather the Igbo nation in one basket, we can only wish him good luck.”

The group observed that there was ominous uncertainties hovering the air over the 2015 elections and called on the southeast governors to make contingency arrangements, separately and collectively, to evacuate Igbo citizens who may be trapped in an area of violence.

Nonetheless, it asked Ndigbo to be vigilant during and after the elections as well as make appropriate arrangements to save their life and family.
