A nine-year-old boy who was mauled to death by a dog in Cornwall has been pictured for the first time.

Frankie Willis was attacked by the crazed bulldog-type animal in Tencreek Holiday Park at 4am on Saturday morning.

Other families staying on the caravan site said they awoke to his mother Tawnee Willis screaming ‘the dog’s attacked my boy’.

It is thought the dog owner was staying next to them in a neighbouring caravan. Officers were called to the park shortly before 5am and found the youngster in an ‘unresponsive’ state.

Emergency services attended but the child was pronounced dead at the scene. Friends and family have since begun paying tribute to the ‘amazing little boy’ as they come to terms with his death. Commenting on a photo of him with Tawnee, one woman wrote: “Sleep tight handsome boy,” while others said they were ‘completely speechless and heartbroken’ over the news of his death.

Another added online: “Rip little man. I still see that little cheeky smile you had,” while Tawnee, of Plymouth, posted a crying emoji on a relative’s Facebook page on Saturday.

Family members were also spotted laying flowers at the entrance to the holiday park where the attack took place.

Among those paying tribute was Frankie’s aunt Danielle Macritchie who left a bouquet which contained a handwritten note: “Auntie Danielle loved you so much baby boy. I’ve loved you from the second I knew you were coming.

“The first time I saw you, you were still in mummy’s belly and I knew right away we were going to be best friends. I’m so sorry this has happened. I am going to miss you till my heart stops beating. We love you baby boy.”

She added with a post on social media: “My baby boy, I just want u back now. I want this to stop now. Our lives are ruined forever. How do we ever stop this pain?”

A woman, 28, was arrested three hours later in Saltash, Cornwall, 15 miles from where the incident occurred. It was later revealed that a teenage passerby had helped her board a train away from the area of the attack, seeing her ‘covered in blood’ and believing she’d been a victim of domestic abuse. The woman was detained on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control and manslaughter. She has since been released under investigation.
