Tragedy has struck at Nigeria’s prime airport, the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, (MMIA), where a man identified as Ademola Adeleke, scheduled to travel out of the country slumped and died on Wednesday.

Reports say the passenger who arrived at the airport early in the morning for his flight slumped and started gasping for breath at about 5.30am and efforts to revive him were futile, as he was unresponsive to the attempts by other passengers to pump his chest, before, proper help could come from medical officials at the airport.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s ambulance arrived at the scene later and took him to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Spokesman of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Henrietta Yakubu, who confirmed the incident, said the passenger slumped as soon as he stepped into the terminal, adding that he was later taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

“It was so sad. He was probably going for medical check-up before he slumped and died, so we could not confirm which of the flights he was supposed to join” she said.
