The Senate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator in Rivers State, has lost its only Senator in Rivers State, Osinakachukwu Ideozu, as the lawmaker, representing Rivers West, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday.

The new gain by the ruling party at the centre, which is in opposition in the oil-rich state, was announced by Senate Majority Leader, Ahmed Lawan, at Wednesday’s plenary, before the Senators embarked on another two-week break.

Lawan, who was moving a motion for the adjournment of plenary till November 6, welcomed and congratulated him for joining the majority party.

Ideozu, joins Andrew Uchendu (Rivers East) and Magnus Abe (Rivers South East), to complete profile of the APC in the state as providing the three members of the upper legislative chambers of the National Assembly, while swelling the number of the ruling party’s Senate caucus, in the stiff competition that has been going on in the last few months with the opposition party.

The contest, had led to the defection of Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his counterpart at the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, firmly putting the two chambers of the federal legislature in the hands of the opposition, for the first time in the history of Nigeria.
