Obasanjo and Atiku

The dictum, the enemy of my enemy, may be playing out right now at the highest level of Nigerian politics, following the rapprochement going on between former President, Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President, over the 2019 presidential election.

Atiku, presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is presently meeting with former President at his Presidential Library in Abeokuta, apparently on how to wrench power out of the hands of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speculations have been rife that Obasanjo, who had earlier sworn never to support the ambition of his deputy for eight years over some political disagreements, received Atiku, who arrives the venue at exactly 1.07pm was accompanied by the National Chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus, former Governor of Cross Rivers State, Liyel Imoke, former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, Senator Ben Bruce among others at his country home.

Atiku, had devoted part of his acceptance speech on Sunday, after emerging the preferred candidate of the PDP to praising Obasanjo, to whom he said he owed his break into high offices, having been chosen by the ex-President as the Vice President after winning his nomination to contest the PDP presidential election in 1999.

Obasanjo, who is intent on removing Buhari, having written him earlier in the year to give up his ambition to contest the 2019 presidential election for a second term, due to his underwhelming performance, has remained unrelenting in his bid and has done several follow-ups including several other public denouncements of the Buhari's policies, to achieve his aim.
