Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have avenged the elimination they suffered from Niger Republic two years ago in the quest for final qualification for the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

On the same sol where they were beaten and eliminated from the 2017 edition of the tournament and thus denied the opportunity of defending their World title, the Golden Eaglets beat Niger 2-1 and moved to the final qualifying match.

The final match will hold in Niamey on Saturday as the Nigerian side revives their traditional rivalry with Ghana.

Earlier this Wednesday, Ghana had beaten Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 in the first semi-final match.

Saturday’s zonal U17 AFCON final will be a winner-takes-it-all as the losers will miss out altogether.

Nigeria attacked from the first whistle and forced the host nation to play most of the first half on the back foot with all 10 outfield players virtually defending their own goal.

However, against the run of play it was Niger who carved out the biggest chance of the game, but somehow they could not put away that glorious opening.

And just before the interval, the Eaglets finally struck through star forward Akinkunmi Amoo, who is reportedly on the radar of several Premier League clubs including Arsenal.

The Nigerians doubled their lead early in the second half courtesy of the team’s leading scorer Olakunle Olusegun with a super strike.

It was his fourth goal of the tournament and he was also named Man of the Match.

The goal forced the Junior Mena of Niger to come out of their defensive shell in a desperate bid to salvage the game.

They were rewarded with a goal with almost the last kick of the game, but it was too little, too late to stop rampant Nigeria to zoom into the final.
