While former Director General of the State Security Services (SSS), Ita Ekpenyong, has since returned home after his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), attention has once again returned to his successor in office, Lawan Daura, who was sacked as the Director General of Department of State Services by Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday.

The EFCC is said to be digging deep into the operations of Daura in his three years at the helms of affairs one of the nation’s most high-profile security agencies, just like the police has also launched its own angle of investigations.

The anti-graft agency, it is said, is already combing and smelling the books in some financial institutions in the country to and ferret out Daura’s financial transactions, as he is believed to have devoted most of his allegiance to the services of enemies of the government he was employed to serve.

Indeed, the arrest of Ekpeyong, who was spirited away from his Asokoro, Abuja residence on Thursday afternoon to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja for questioning, has been linked to Daura’s arrest.

Operatives of the commission, were said to be acting on the thinking that Ekpeyong could provide them a lead to some of the critical activities of the former DSS boss, based on their perceived friendly relationship.

Recall that Daura it was, who late last year, foiled the attempt by the EFCC to effect Ekpeyong’s arrest by deploying men of the DSS to prevent it, on the ground that the proper procedure was not followed.

However, Ekpeyong was, said to have been released after the EFCC agents realised he was unable to provide them with the information they needed.
