Still absolving himself of blame, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has asked Acting President, to give him permission to carry out a comprehensive search of the home of sacked Director General of the State Security Services (DSS), Lawan Daura, over Tuesday’s siege to the National Assembly.

The letter, dated August 8, 2018, and entitled ‘NASS Siege, which was personally signed by the IG, who has since been denying that his men did not participate in the siege, where lawmakers were prevented from gaining access to the NASS chambers, indicated that the search was necessary to establish evidence that would expose the motive for the ex-DSS boss’ action.

The IG, who has not explained the circumstances for a similar action by his men at the premises of the Benue State House of Assembly, some days before the NASS siege, accused Daura, of abusing his office and working for “some highly placed politicians” and for “selfish interest.”

The IGP, who confirmed Mr Daura’s arrest in the report, informed the Acting President that he was undergoing further interrogation in Garki, Abuja.

Part of the report read: “There is need to search the houses and premises of all identified suspects.

“All communication gadgets such as computers, mobile phones and other electronics devices of the suspects will be thoroughly analysed.

“Conclusion: It is crystal clear that the Principal suspect Lawal Musa Daura may be acting the script of some highly placed politicians to achieve selfish political goals., hence, his unilateral and unlawful decision to invade the National Assembly Complex.

“As it stands, the principal suspect, Mr. Lawal Musa Daura is undergoing further interrogation at our facility and is currently placed on house arrest at a private property in Birnin Kebbi close, off Birnin Kebbi Crescent, Garki II, Abuja, awaiting further directions from Your Excellency.

Giving a glimpse of what the sacked security chief had as his defence, he quoted him in the report as saying that he deployed the operatives of the DSS based on intelligence report “that unauthorised persons were planning to smuggle undisclosed dangerous weapons and incriminating items into the National Assembly Complex,” an information, which he failed to share with the police, adding that Daura deployed DSS operatives who were masked and “acted like mercenaries, hired to carry out executions.

“The claim of purported intelligence report by the suspect cannot be substantiated as the personnel deployed were not EOD (Explosives Ordinance Department) experts or specialist in this regard,” the report, stated, adding that DSS operatives that “invaded and barricaded” the National Assembly complex should be released to the police investigating team for questioning.

“There is need to search the houses and premises of all identified suspects” and that “all communication gadgets such as computers, mobile phones and electronic devices of the suspects will be thoroughly analysed.”
