Events appear to be happening too quickly within the security circles, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), finally arresting former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Ita Ekpenyong.

The arrest, said to be sanctioned by Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, signalled the end of the protective cover hitherto given to the former security boss, by his successor, Lawan Daura, whose men, had prevented the EFCC from carrying out the arrest in the past, leading to confrontations that blew open in the public.

Punch that the EFCC men stormed the 46 Maman Nasir Street, Asokoro, Abuja, residence of Ekpenyong in three buses and some patrol vehicles accompanied by over 20 armed policemen to carry out the arrest.

The operatives, who arrived the scene at about 1.30pm were said to have combed the entire mansion for over two hours before leaving at 3.20pm, without recovering any cash.

Late last year, operatives of the EFCC, had met instant resistance from the DSS operatives at the same venue, when they came to carry out a similar arrest, generating a lot of public interest and controversy over the propriety of the action.
