When the going was good

Police in Lagos, pulled out the man said to be connected to the lady who jumped into the Lagos Lagoon on Sunday, from his hospital bed, where he appears to have holed up since the sad incident, which has spiralled all over the social and traditional media.

In a video currently trending on the social media, the man whose name was not given, was seen practically lifted up from his bed, by a contingent of police personnel, who stormed the undisclosed hospital, said to be somewhere in Lagos.

The man was heard exchanging words with the police, who seemed to have quite unperturbed by his complaints, as he struggled to get up from the hospital bed with the support of a walking stick, with apparent difficulty.

Most of the things the suspect was saying appeared quite inaudible, but it appeared he was complaining of being harassed for nothing. At a point, he was heard shouting, “This is not a court, not a court. I’m not a criminal,” to which a female voice, apparently the leader of the police team, shouting back – “Yes, you are.”

A female staff of the hospital, was overheard pleading with the police personnel, “please, this is a hospital,” but nobody appeared to pay her any attention as the police appeared intent on carrying out the operation without let or hindrance.

It took the some few minutes for the man, who appeared weak, complaining that he had not had any rest “since yesterday” eventually managed to get up, while leaning on the walking stick, and shuffled his feet, as he moved tenderly, led by a man in mufti, believed to be a police personnel.

As the man in mufti tried to offer a shoulder support to the suspect, the female voice, was heard again shouting: “He can f**king walk. He can walk.”

From information that has been trending since the incident broke, it was gathered that that the lady’s name is Toyin, reportedly married to a banker called Tunde, working with a popular bank in Lagos.

She got involved with another guy in Nigeria and they both got involved in series of adulterous activities. Her lover, an older guy collected over N10million from her.

She went to arrest him only for him to publish nude pictures of them together in order to prove his innocence to the Police that whatever happened between both of them was consensual, that he’s not a fraudster as claimed by the married woman.

The blackmail from the man got to her husband and this compelled the husband to conduct a DNA test on all his 3 children which later turned out that they are not all his kids after all. Those kids belong to someone else and this was why she committed.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said the agency was yet to ascertain if the report was actually another suicidal case.

An official of LASEMA revealed that the agency was  still speaking to people who claimed to have witnessed the incident and was still making moves to ascertain the authenticity or otherwise of the claims.

The police public relations officer for the Lagos State Command, Chike Oti, said: “Information filtered to us that a woman in an Uber taxi ordered her driver to stop inward Maryland, crossed over to the other side and jumped into the lagoon. Well, nobody reported the matter to us, but we cannot just hear such a story and keep quiet.”

“The commissioner of police, Imohimi Edgal, has ordered the Marine Police, Rapid Response Squad, Anti-Terrorism Unit, and the three divisional police stations that the bridge falls under their jurisdiction to fish out the victim, if any. We are still searching.”

“The police, aided by other agencies like the LASEMA, Lagos State Ambulance Unit, Federal Road Safety Corps and local divers have been searching the lagoon. And, so far, the body of the victim has not been found. The CP has ordered that the search party should keep searching till further directives.”

“Investigation is ongoing and whatever we find out would be communicated to the public.”
