Ekweremadu

The Presidency of Nigeria is yours for the taking in 2023, if only you will quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC), was the seductive message delivered to Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Tuesday, from the ruling party.

The emissary was Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan, Ekweremadu’s mate at the upper legislative chambers of the National Assembly and the Senator representing Yobe North Senatorial Zone, under the APC.

In recent times, the bait had increased for the South East, mostly favoured to produce the next President after Buhari, to shelve its attitude against the APC, particularly the President, who got the least votes from the area in the 2015 election and give him full support in place of the nation’s number one job, which they had been denied in Nigeria’s democratic history and which has increased the cry of marginalisation of the area.

But Lawan, was sure that all these would end, if only Ekweremadu, the most prominent political figure in the South East at the moment, could take a bite at the APC political apple, using the 56 birthday opportunity of the DSP to deliver the message.

Lawan, who told Ekweremadu that he was been given the opportunity to exhibit his potentiality and achieve his aspiration, said: “2023 is there to be taken by him because there is an opportunity for you to get the ticket to contest for the presidential election in 2023”.

Lawan, while stressing that the birthday “should be more than ordinary mentioning” considering his position and number of years in the National Assembly, added: “He is the longest serving presiding officer in the National Assembly. I am not PDP and I will never be; but I know Senator Ike Ekweremadu has been a very loyal and committed Deputy Senate President.

“I will not miss the opportunity to urge Senator Ike Ekweremadu to see through the mist, this unholy environment and take the right decisions. You are an asset, don’t stay and rot away or waste away.

“I join the numerous leaders and elders of the South-East who have understood that Nigeria needs the commitment of people like you. Nigeria needs the unity of everybody to make it better for the masses of this country.

“We need stability and I want to say clearly and assert that you are going to fit in perfectly well. 2023 is there to be taken.”
