Don’t stand on the way of Nigerians to effect the change they desire in the Nigerian government, were the words with which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was told on Tuesday that it is under the scrutiny of vigilant Nigerians.

The words came from enigmatic entertainer and social critic, Charles Oputa, alias Charlie Boy, who took the next step on Monday, after making a video that has gone viral on social media criticising the commission, for doing a shoddy job in the ongoing voter registration exercise.

The Area Fada, led members of the Our Mumu Don Do group to the headquarters of the commission in Abuja, for an engagement on how to smoothen the process of the exercise to ensure that no potential voter in the country, was denied the opportunity of participating in the next election.

Alongside other civil society organisations to demand strategic engagement with the commission on electoral processes, the group, said Nigerians were not ready to entertain excuses, like the shortage or unavailability of registration materials.

Joined by Coalition in Defence of Nigerian Democracy, Concerned Nigerians, Campaign for Democracy and MAD Connect, they said after series of meticulous observations of the electoral process, and interface with voters across the nation, thy deemed it fit to engage INEC on what they have discovered so far.

In a letter they handed over to INEC, the group said: “We humbly request a strategic engagement with INEC to discuss the issues identified above and other likely developments obstructing the electoral process, and how we can equally be of significant help as stakeholders.

Image result for The OurMumuDonDo movement is deeply and genuinely concerned that if necessary actions are not taken to remedy deficiencies plaguing the electoral process, it will be difficult to eradicate voter-apathy and disenfranchisement, and even more difficult to sustain our democracy.

"We sincerely hope that our request will be given a quick attention, treated with dispatch and a date of engagement will be communicated to the group soonest.
