Ekwunife, receiving award from Okeke

The usually serene Rosebank sub-urban district of Johannesburg, bore a different picture. It lost its serenity to the robust boisterous atmosphere that took over the firmament. Date was Friday, September, 16, 2016.

It was on a day major stakeholders, investors and partners gathered in Protea Wanderers Hotel to robustly discuss the Anambra State Government’s agricultural and industrial revolution.

On hand was the Consul General of the Nigeria Consulate Johannesburg, Uche Ajulu-Okeke, to spread the message, and she delivered it simple and direct, with all the power-packed impacts registering very deep within the inner recesses of the audience.

Her message to the organisers and participants of the Anambra State International Investment and Tourism Summit (AIITS), bore the imprimaturs of the current gospel in Anambra State at the moment and the position of the Chief Executive and number one citizen of the state, Chief Willy Obiano, of what is required to get the state, which is already scoring firsts on many fronts get to the next level.

In a concise delivery, she described some of the key objectives of the governor, saying it was in line with his vision and economic blueprint, to stimulate economic growth, create jobs and urbanise the state by harnessing the numerous potentials of the state through aggressive investment drive for profitability.

Giving a rundown of the template for achieving the governor’s dream, the Consul General, informed that the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA) was an outcome of the effort and would serve as one of the major vehicles for the realisation of the economic aspirations of the State.

It was for that reason that Ajulu-Okeke, who also doubles as a member of the Governing Council of the body (ANSIPPA), was full of praises for the efforts of the organisers and Directors of the Legendary Digest, the no.1 Anambra State Investment and Tourism Magazine with global outlook and reach, for the private initiative in support of the governor’s laudable goal.

She then encouraged prospective investors and partners to take advantage of the platform offered by the medium by subscribing to the publication.
The Chief Organiser of the summit and the CEO of the Legendary Digest, Rev. Dr. Charles Okereke had earlier in his opening address expressed deep enthusiasm at the vision of Obiano’s administration, explaining that the major motivation for the passion derived from the urge to identify with the Obiano’s vision to transform Anambra State into the Dubai of Africa.

Okereke who is also a Geo scientist, assured that the group would not relent in this effort to sell Anambra State globally, through quarterly publication of the magazine and International Investment Summit that would be rotated.
Representative of the governor at the event and the Commissioner for Diaspora Matters, Culture and Tourism, Barr. Stella Onuorah, was no less reticent about the glorious narrative back home in the state since the coming of the governor into the number one job in the state.

Armed with the felicitations of the governor, she told her audience that Obiano’s commitment at achieving a new Anambra State that will become the envy of all and sundry, was one he usually slept, dreamt and woke up with each day.

Expressing appreciation to the organisers for putting the event together, she assured them of the partnership and support of the home government.
Presenting a paper on investment opportunities that abound in the state, the CEO of ANSIPPA, Hon. Joe Billy Ekwunife itemised the many untapped resources of the state and called on genuine investors to take advantage of the incentives provided by the state.

Harping on the huge potentials that abound in the state in the area of tourism, for instance, he listed such tourist attractions like the Ogbunike Cave, Owelle- Ezukala Cave and Waterfalls, Igbo Ukwu Museum and many others.

Ekwunife said that ANSIPPA was a deliberate creation of the state to facilitate its repositioning as a first choice investment destination and preferred location for new industries in Nigeria. The CEO, who is also an astute Banker with over 30 years of experience, emphasised the Governor’s 4-point plan of Agriculture, Industrialization, Trade and Commerce and Oil and Gas, stressing that the agency was committed to the provision of a fertile atmosphere for business.

He added that every barrier associated with bureaucracy had been dismantled to the extent that investment agreements could now be finalised “while you wait in the coffee room.”
In another development, the CEO of the South Africa/Nigeria Chamber of Commerce, Mrs Diana Games was delightful by the platform provided by the initiative and hoped it would assist in strengthening the solid business ties already existing between the two sister countries.

She said that this relationship received boost within the short stay of Agulu Okeke, who she described as a dynamic Consul General.
The highlights of the occasion was the presentation of different categories of award to deserving men and women who have distinguished themselves in their chosen endeavours.

Those that were honoured in different categories, included Obiano, Onuorah, Ekwunife, Ajulu-Okeke and Prof H. Uzoegbu of the Wits University, who received awards for leadership.

Anambra First Lady was also given an award for her untiring effort in empowering the womenfolk.
Others are Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, Prince (Engineer) Arthur Eze and Dr. Cosmas Maduka, who equally received Entrepreneurship Awards. Also, Willy Okpara, the Nigeria International received soccer Ambassador Award;  Mazi Wisdom Edward Okoli, who received an award for being the first Nigerian commercial farmer in South Africa and Chief Emeka Ekwealor, while a captain of Industry and a Director of Legendary Digest, also received award.
The event was well attended by captains various industries and especially from SA/Nigeria Chamber of Commerce, diplomats, members of the academia including Dr. Nkem Mbamel of the City University New York, the Minister Trade & Investment at the Nigeria High Commission, Pretoria, Okee Nze and Kwanele Ndlovu of Doctors Without Borders.
In his vote of thanks, Chief Emeka Ekwealor an  international business executive thanked the participants for the attendance and pledged that the publication would stand side by side with Anambra State Governor in his renewed vision for a new Anambra State.

The editor and a veteran journalist, Mazi Ben Benson-Okoli, who anchored the media aspect of the event, fielded questions from reporters, shortly after the event, where he assured that his team would be meticulous in the research, assemblage and presentation of the various elements that would combine to give the publication a unique look.
