The late Chinenye

Agony has consumed Madam Chinyere Nwonye, mother Chinenye Promise Nwonye, an undergraduate of University of Benin (UNIBEN), who was recently strangled to death inside Akuu Hotel in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The grieving mother, who has been besides herself, since the incident, is however pointing accusing fingers towards the management of the hotel who she said is complicit in the awful incident.

Nwoye, palpably distraught, said in company of her family fellowship, Jude Okoye, appealed to the government to help her get justice for the sake of her daughter, an indigene of Iruokpala Village in Abba, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state,

She narrated how she had to rush to Akuu Hotel shortly after the deceased reached out through a phone call that she was in danger and needed her ATM pin number to free herself from kidnappers before she was strangled to death by an unknown person inside Room 57 of the hotel.

Explaining that the remains of her daughter has been deposited at Bekee Mortuary in Nimo, she said that she would also leave everything in the hands of God, as she was sure the her spirit would not rest until the perpetrators were made to face the music

She said: “I suspect the hotel workers on the death of my daughter. God will pay back whoever that killed my daughter in his or her coin. What did she do to deserve this cruelty?”

It was gathered that before her death on August 27, 2020, the deceased, who was on scholarship at UNIBEN, had opted for computer lessons to keep herself busy at a neighbouring town, following the closure of schools as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that suspects including a staff of the hotel, who were reportedly arrested by the police over the incident have been released, fueling suspicion that some influential people are trying to sweep the incident under the carpet.

In his reaction, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said that only one suspect was arrested over the incident and not two.

He said the case has been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation.
