At the Lagos Country Club Tennis Section, the story is changing

Someone, said it could only compare with what the President of the United States (POTUS), uses at the House. But, that was how the new Executive Management Committee of the Lagos Country Club (LCC) Tennis Section, chose to announce its coming. 

Date was Friday, July 20, 2018. Even with the gridlock occasioned by the heavy rain that took the better part of the evening, which practically suffocated the usually dense Lagos traffic, the section was packed, filled to capacity with members and their guests. 

Friday nights had always been special, Deji-anchored Thank God It's Friday (TGIF), sessions, anchored by Deji, the Entertainment Officer (EO), where members treat themselves to all sorts of lavish and delightful times under the most friendly and convivial atmosphere obtainable anywhere in Lagos and beyond, which has in all, impelled the raison d'etre of the entire club as the best place to be, these seven decades on.

But not a few were prepared at the specatacle that unfolded before them eventually. Even if the reference to the POTUS own version, was meant to be a joke, it was close to hitting the bull's eye in reality. Call it the most exquisite, regal, imperial, picturisque and elegant place to be after a game of tennis and you will just be scratching the surface in terms of its sheer beauty. It was simply breathtaking.

For members, who had for weeks on end, faced the tedious task and enduring treks use facilities elswhere, it was worth the wait. What with being wowed with such glittering ornament, equipped with the most modern fittings for just a convinience. 

But Seyi Adewunmi, the mint Chairman of the session, who a few weeks ago, was struggling to get members buy into his vision, in a keenly-contested election, tells his audience that it was just the beginning, just an aperitif, as the main course is on the way. 

Amid showers of encomiums, he assured the enthusistic crowd, including past and present Presidents of the LCC, Management Council, as well as the section's Management Committee of his commitment to transform the section, he thanked those who helped to make it dream possible, amongst whom were versatile lawyer and great tennis player, Babatunde Fashanu (SAN), Wale Adesida, a guru in real estate development and management.

It was also an evening of jokes and laughter as the duo of Rasky Gbinigi, past Chairman of the Tennis Section and Chinwe Folaranmi, the current Secretary General put some of the nation's most forthcoming comedians to task with juicy jokes. 

Speaking at the occasion, Tajudeen Akande, President of LCC, commended the team for showing a practical example of selflessness and teamwork, assuring that the main club would always be ready to partner with any section in undertaking meaningful project that would enhance the pleasure and convinience of members to ensure that it continued to enjoy the status of the most prestigious family club in Nigeria.
