Fayose to Buhari @75: Congratulations, but you're too old and fragile to run in 2019

Fayose

Smarting from his own grievance for not being similarly recognised, Ayo Fayose, Ekiti State Governor, has queued up behind other dignitaries in the outpouring of goodwill to President Muhammadu Buhari, who just turned 75.

But the governor, who lamented last month that Buhari did not congratulate him on his own birthday, when he turned 57 in November, however came with a quick advice – the President must banish any thought of contesting the 2019 presidential election, given his age.

Fayose, who has already announced his interest in the nation’s number one job, said the nation needed an “experienced and agile” person to take over its affairs, rather than old people.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Mr Idowu Adelusi, he said: “This is to congratulate Mr President as he clocks 75. I want to thank God for his life and pray for good health in the service of our nation and that he continues to age with grace. I wish him the best. He represents us all and we owe him prayers and cooperation where necessary, just as we also need to criticise him too where necessary.

“I am not a fan of an old man and this is not personal and peculiar to President Buhari. We need an agile president come 2019.

“We need somebody that is experienced and agile. He shouldn’t contest and the decision is his and his party. But that is not going to stop me and my party from taking over from him and his party come 2019.”
