There seems to be confusion in the Presidency about who is actually picking the medical bills of President Muhammadu Buhari, who has spent more than three months in London, on medical ground, as not even his spokesman, Femi Adesina, appears to be in the picture.

Except that he is hiding something, Adesina, told Seun Okinbaloyo, his host on Politics Today, a popular Channels Television programme, on Monday, that he did not know who was footing his boss’ bills.

Nigerians have been demanding of such disclosures and explanation for paying a whopping $4,000 on the Presidential jet, parked at the London airport, permanently waiting for the President, who has been away from the country since May 7, this year.

Asked by his host about the cost implication and who is picking the bills, Adesina retorted in reply: “Does it matter at this point?

But, Okinbaloyo, would not relent, probing further: “We need to know, he is our President. He is a public official. This shouldn’t be shrouded in secrecy.”

Adesina quipped: “I do not know who is paying,” Mr. Adesina said, “but as a president, he has a right to be treated by the country.”

Okinbaloye, probing more directly: “Is Nigeria taking care of the bill?

Adesina: “Most likely. I don’t not know for sure.”

But the presidential spokesman, was quick to give insight about the health condition of the President, who he visited alongside the entire media team at the weekend, stating that Buhari was “sharp, he was smart, he was lucid,” though he still maintained that his return to the country still remained unknown, as the President had decided to obey his doctors, who would take the decision on when he would be fit enough to do so.

His words: “But like I said in the statement we issued, he will come when his doctors say ‘it’s time to go home’,” he argued.

The visit of the team, where for the first time, pictures of Buhari, which had been flowing from London, was backed by a short video, showing him walking briskly to take photographs with his aides, had been interpreted in certain quarters as a way of dousing tensions in the country, which had built for a substantial part of last week, when a group of Nigerians, including weird entertainer, Charles Oputa, alias Charlie Boy, had taken to the streets to protest the long absence, demanding that he either resumed or resigned.
