Obasanjo: Two new political parties coming *APC, PDP not vibrant enough

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has hinted about the coming of two new political parties coming to take the places of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he dubbed “too weak” to give Nigerian democracy the vibrancy it needed to thrive.

Obasanjo, the first President produced by the PDP, who later became its Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) and later denouncing the party publicly by tearing its membership card, predicted “the alignment and realignment of politicians before the end of 2017 to pave way for the establishment of two strong political parties in the country,” according to a report in The Nation.

The paper quotes the former President as saying that the present two leading parties were not vibrant enough to perform the role of ruling and opposition parties respectively, while hosting the delegation of Ondo State Chapter of the Accord Party (AP), led by its Chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT), Rev. Adebayo Adeniyi, at his presidential hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

While observing that the AP’s governorship candidate election scheduled for November 26, Mr. Ola Amuda, had a bright political future, urged the seasoned technocrat and former Special Assistant to late Olusegun Agagu to strive hard and make positive impact during the November 26 poll in the state.

A statement issued by the Ola Amuda Campaign Organisation said the former President charged the candidate to hold his supporters and party members firmly for future consolidation of political parties.

The BoT chairman informed Obasanjo that the Accord Party has been waxing stronger since its formation.
