Succour for Yekini's mother *Gets shopping mall, nurse, maid from Saraki

Alhaja Yekini

Succour has come for Alhaja Sikirat Yekini, mother of one of Nigeria's most celebrated strikers on the football pitch, the late Rasheed Yekini, who died on May 4, 2012, following the intervention of Senate President, Bukola Saraki to rehabilitate her, and mitigate the parlous situation in which she is said to be living after her son's death, almost in penury.

As part of the rash of actions taken by Saraki, who hails from Kwara State, the same with the late striker, the aged mother is now to have a compliment of both medical and domestic staff, comprising of a nurse and a housemaid,Vanguard is reporting.

The largesse from the Senate President, also a former governor of the state for eight years, was conveyed by the Director of Football, Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC, Alloy Chukwuemeka, on Friday in Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area of the state.

Yekini

Saraki, who also donated a Tricycle to the younger brother of late ace footballer, said that he had before now, financed the sinking of a borehole and renovated the residence of aged woman as well as upgraded her shop to a mini mart, adding that the visit was to meet with the family and see how they could be assisted to better their lots .

Explaining that the aim was to make the family not to feel neglected or abandoned, he also announced an annual football competition for U-13 boys “so another Rasheed Yekini can be discovered among the youth from Ijagbo, Ira and Offa.”

Saraki who said that the competition will be sponsored yearly by him and would be tagged Rasheed Yekini U-13 football competition, challenged well to do Nigerians to remember the Yekini family always, while donating balls, jerseys and trophy for the Rasheed Yekini U-13 football competition.
