Brother and manager of former Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi, Emmanuel Ado, has said it was destined by God Keshi will pass on and not even “10 million soldiers would have stopped it”.

Ado said that Keshi was in Nigeria to attend to the grave side of his late wife, Kate Keshi.

It will be recalled that Kate (née Abureme) died of cancer in December 2015, and they were married for 33 years.

Ado said, “Keshi never recovered from the death of Kate; they were inseparable. He has gone to meet Kate.”

“Since the wife died Keshi has kept on mourning and has been in sorrow. All these time Keshi has been acting, giving the impression that he was fine and man enough to bear the sorrow but the truth actually is that he was down and in pain over the death of his wife.

“From companionship to cooking and other domestic matters nobody could be like his wife to him; they were irreplaceable. The man just went to join her”, he added.

Sunday Oliseh, Keshi’s successor and ‏former coach of the Super Eagles, who took over has described the news as horrible and sad.

Oliseh ‏on his twitter handle @SundayOOliseh said: “Horrible news & Sad day as Our legendary Captain & brother Stephen Keshi dies.May his blessed soul rest in peace.we lost an iconic Hero 2day. Another of Keshi’sfriend who spoke on condition of anonymity said “He was not ill at all, never showed any signs of illness, but we suspect he never got over the death of his wife.”

Meanwhile, tributes have continued to pour after news broke out that Keshi was no more.

one of the condolences came from Retired Super Eagles striker, Emmanuel Emenike.

"True Legend, the only man that believed in me, the only man that made me in super Eagles, the only man that has never stopped believing in me, the only man that surprised me on the day I needed him most in my dad's burial, the only man that has never stopped advising me when he calls me,” an emotional Emenike said on his Facebook page.

“You will forever stay in my heart the big boss RIP."

Emenike was top scorer when Nigeria won a third AFCON three years ago with Keshi in charge of the team.

Keshi kept faith with the Fenerbahce striker even when most Nigerians doubted him and he went on prove the coach right by emerging top scorer at AFCON 2013 with four goals.

Former FCT FA chairman Emmanuel Attah said Nigeria have suffered a great loss.

“I am still in shock because this is a great, great loss to Nigeria as a whole,” said Attah, who worked with Keshi when Nigeria won the 2013 AFCON in South Africa.

“He loved Nigeria and he gave everything for our national team to succeed.

“He was a father figure to both officials and players and that was why we won the Nations Cup 19 years after our last triumph.”
