Insinuations in some quarters that the former governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan does not see eyeball to eyeball with his successor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has been debunked.

Pundits however believe that there is no lost relationship between Governor Okowa and his predecessor, Uduaghan, and they alleged that it was the former who ordered the State Accountant General, his kinsman, to go into hiding so as not to sign cheques for the latter, a few days to the expiration of his tenure.

It was also alleged that Governor Okowa made public the huge debt profile just to spite Uduaghan, notwithstanding the fact that he Okowa has been a ‘’system man’’ since 1999, first as a Commissioner and later a Secretary to the State Government under Uduaghan before he got elected into the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, from where the contested and won the gubernatorial poll.

Okowa is from Ika speaking area of the Big Heart State.

But Uduaghan’s former Chief Press Secretary, Sunny Ogefere in a statement denied  reports making the rounds that there is  a “running battle” between the duo, adding also that  the bid to sell the Master Care schools to the government of Delta State  was a ruse.

Ogefere described those who were peddling the rumour and painting Uduaghan in bad light as political jobbers who were out to cause a storm in a teacup in frantic attempts to execute their dubious objectives, stating that the era of Uduaghan as governor was marked by outstanding achievements and legacies.

The statement read: “Dr. Uduaghan is not in any running battle with his successor, His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa. Of course, some people may have tried to create one using hirelings as the author of the story under reference, but as is always the case; any venture founded on satanic motives will collapse.

‘’Therefore, the phantom running battle between Dr Uduaghan and his successor, Governor Okowa over an alleged refusal to approve payment  cannot arise.

“We recognise the fact that these are desperate times for political jobbers who will stop at nothing to create storms where none exist in order to achieve their inordinate objectives. In executing this, there should be some modicum of honour and responsibility.

“Let it be stated that at no time was the Mastercare International School, owned by a foundation being run by the wife of the Ex-Governor, sold to or negotiated with the Delta State Government.’’

Continuing, the statement added: “The author’s cheap resort to unfounded generalization in classifying Dr. Uduaghan’s achievements in office as abysmal only betrays the writer’s real intention of undertaking a hatchet job. However, Deltans are too sophisticated a people to be taken in by such jaundiced venture.

Uduaghan

“His legacies of achievements will continue to speak for him and continue to endear him to the people. As any other citizen, Dr. Uduaghan is entitled to embark on any legitimate venture after his vacation.

“Having served the people of Delta State meritoriously, it is no rocket science to know that Dr. Uduaghan will take a well deserved rest having not had a vacation during his time as Governor.”
