Nigeria U-23s coach Samson Siasia has selected 25 players ahead of the African U-23 Championship final round, first leg clash against Congo’s Red Devils in Port Harcourt on July 19, the Nigeria Football Federation has announced on their website.

While the list includes Imoh Ezekiel and FIFA U-20 World Cup stars Taiwo Awoniyi and Godwin Saviour, their colleagues Dele Alampasu and Musa Muhammed have been ommitted.

Flying Eagles captain Muhammed is in Turkey tying up a deal, while goalkeeper Alampasu was granted permission to settle a personal matter.

Siasia said the selected players would be joined by four overseas-based professionals Imoh Ezekiel, Aminu Umar, Sodiq Popoola and Gabriel Abalo for the final phase of preparations for the crucial game billed for the Adokiye Amiesiemaka Stadium, Port-Harcourt. ‎

He urged the players who failed to make the cut not to be discouraged but to work harder to keep themselves among the pool of players that could be called up for future  assignments as the team prepares for the return leg, and the All-Africa Games in Congo.

The U-23 gaffer then released players whose clubs have league games at the weekend to go and play for their teams with a stern instruction that all of them must report in Port-Harcourt on Monday. Failure to do so could mean automatic ejection from the squad.
