Crisis hits IPAC ahead general Polls

Crisis may have erupted in the Enugu State chapter of the Interparty Advisory Council (IPAC) as one of the political parties that endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the state; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has distanced itself from the advertorial.

The party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which said it was not part of the endorsement on Friday took the leadership of the state chapter of IPAC to court, asking for N100million as general damages for allegedly using its logo and associating it with the said advertorial.

It said that SDP has a governorship candidate in Nze Rogers Asogwa and has not adopted candidate of any other political party in the state.

In the suit No.E/9/2015 filed at the State High Court by its State Chairman, Mr John Nwobodo, the party alleged that IPAC in a signed advertorial by its Enugu Chapter Chairman, Afam Ani, published on 26th October, 2014, insinuated that it (SDP) had endorsed Ugwuanyi as its
consensus governorship candidate.

Joined in the suit in which the party is claiming N100 million as general damages “for illegally placing the logo of the party and associating its chairman in Enugu state with the publication of the
advertorial on page 4 of the Vanguard Newspaper of October 26, 2014” are Ani, in his capacity as the state chairman of IPAC and Festus Ogbonna, as state Secretary of the organization.

The party prayed the court for an order of injunction restraining the defendants from further publishing any advertorial representing the plaintiffs thereto or as consenting to the publication or logo of the plaintiff to any publication whatsoever or howsoever without the express consent of the plaintiffs first hand and obtained.

No date has been fixed for hearing on the matter.
