Nigeria’s first female Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Patricia Olubunmi Etteh, has pitched tent with the All Progressive Congress (APC), the party in power in her home state, Osun.

She was among the group of erstwhile Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in her constituency of Irewole, Ayedaade and Isokan Federal constituency of the state, who declared for the party at a ceremony on Monday at a rally led by the Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

The exercise was to drum up support for the APC candidates of the constituency in this month’s elections started from Ikoyi in Irewole Local government noted that her coming to the party was long overdue.

Etteh’s tenure as the head of the green chambers was cut short with impeachment as a result of her colleagues finding her culpable in a contract scam of her official residence and was subsequently replaced by former Speaker, Dimeji Bankole. Since then, her political profile seemed somewhat beclouded by the incident and dwindled over time.

Attributing the move to identifying with the progressive policies and the love for the masses, she said it was her desire to contribute her quota to the development of the people in line with the giant strides of the governor in bringing positive change to the state in the past four and a half years, noting that the transformation of the state under APC was glaring for all to see.

Aregbesola while admitting the former Speaker and her supporters in Ikoyi, Apomu,  Ikire,  Araromi Owu,  Orile Owu and Gbongan‎ stated that it was a good thing that she was joining the winning party at this crucial time.

Urging voters in the state to vote for all the candidates of APC across board, the governor stressed that the victory of August 9 governorship election in the state would be boosted with the party securing all the seats available both in upper, lower and the legislative chambers.

He pointed out that change could only come when the APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari comes to power by May 29 this year.

Declaring that Nigerians stood to gain much from an APC government at the centre, he stated: "February 14 and 28 elections are significant for the change that Nigerians have been clamouring for, we need not say much. Our good work has been speaking for us, we plan do more than what we have done in the last four years.

"We can only do more with your support by voting all our party members in the forthcoming elections. I also want to use this opportunity to thank you for standing behind us during the last August 9 governorship election.

"We are here again to ask for your votes for our presidential candidate and every other candidate in your Federal constituency. We must show to the world that Osun is completely APC. Our experience was a bad one with the federal government when we joyfully approached the President with the free offer of train coaches to the state from the Chinese government.

"The offer was given to us shortly after we came into office. Till date, the President failed to even acknowledge the application. All these will stop when the APC comes into power this year."
